It’s time. Planning for the road trip North is upon us. How, though, can you really plan for something neither you, nor anyone you know has done before? Well, of course, there are the AAA maps and guidebooks, internet research, and hunting down random tidbits of information by chatting it up with strangers in line at the gym (yeah, right…the gym!) –You know what I mean–
Well, here are some of the links I’m looking at, in case you are interested in finding out what sorts of things you might be getting to read about in the coming weeks/months as I traverse the unknown road.
www.alaskamagazine.com
The Alaska Magazine site has a pretty general introduction to traveling in Alaska.

The link above will take you to the Alaska National Park page.
http://www.travelyukon.com/en/
Good site with current information about traveling in Yukon.
http://www.travelyukon.com/en/s5/maps/maps.php?main_id=5&sec_id=40
The link above is linked from the link above it…but it’ll take you right to a page with maps of Yukon (apparently, Americans say “The” Yukon, but Canadians just say “Yukon”…so, when in Rome!)
http://www.visi.com/~alcan/
Learn the history of the Alcan Highway through the above site. It’ll show you great pictures from its early stages and also some pictures from now.
http://www.yukoninfo.com/watson/watsonlakeinfo.htm
I’m excited to visit Watson Lake. There is a “Signpost Forest” where there are well over 35,000 signposts pointing to various other places on the globe. These signposts were started when a homesick person put up a sign pointing to his home and the tradition took flight. I hope to put “Normal Heights” up when we drive through. There is also a Northern Lights Centre in Watson Lake.
http://www.watsonlake.ca/ There is a good video clip when you click on the Town Promotional Video link on the right hand side.
http://www.dawsoncreek.ca/ Here is where adventure in Yukon will begin! This site has a good introduction, nice images, and even a great message from the mayor of Dawson Creek.
http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/liard.html I’m sure that sitting in 107 degree water, soaking aching muscles and fatigued legs will be a welcomed event when we reach Mile 496. Word has it that the road in is steep and bumpy.
http://www.youryukon.com/gallery/main.php Check out the great pictures of Yukon and Alaska. You can even enter a photo contest!
http://www.yukonwild.com/ Check this site out to plan a day trip in Yukon…we probably won’t have time, but…maybe on our way back?
http://www.weathergraphics.com/tim/arctic/index.htm These folks have a great online posting of their road trip from Dallas to Alaska.
